Nothing special is required to make this recipe. Starting with cabbage, alfredo sauce in a jar, salt and pepper to taste, parmesan cheese, sausage, onions, and garlic.

This meal will be done before you know it.

This recipe uses the large long-link Kielbasa sausage. While raw cabbage has very little flavor on its own, cooked cabbage tastes sweeter and it picks up additional flavors from the foods you cook with it, like sausage.

It’s a must to pan-fry the sausage first. Once it’s browned a bit on both sides, add the onions and fry until they are soft. Then stir in the garlic but don’t fry it very long or the garlic will burn.

There are many varieties to this recipe. You could have this recipe without the alfredo sauce and just pan-fry everything. Add a bit of Tabasco sauce for some heat. The ideas are endless and low carb too! I’ve also just served the onions, garlic, and sausage with a veggie.

Cook Time 30 minutes
Total Time 1 hour
INGREDIENTS
  • 1 lb kielbasa smoked sausage
  • 1 jar alfredo sauce
  • 1 cup parmesan cheese, shredded
  • 1 medium sweet onion, chopped
  • 1 tbsp garlic, finely minced
  • 1 head cabbage, chopped
  • salt & pepper
INSTRUCTIONS
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Layer chopped cabbage in a 13 x 11 pan. Layer jar alfredo sauce on top. Add salt and pepper to taste. Add shredded parmeson cheese on top.
  • Slice your sausage into 1/2-inch pieces. Heat pan with 1 tsp of olive oil and add sausage. Let brown on both sides and add chopped onion. When onions are soft add garlic and heat for just a couple of minutes. Take off the heat and then layer on top of cabbage mixture.
  • Add another layer of shredded parmesan cheese on top of cabbage mixture.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. If you like for the cheese to be a bit brown, take off foil and broil just for a few minutes.
