Just Me & My Moments

Here you will find a collection of ideas, tips, and just thoughts. I love to share everything happening in my abundant life and what inspires me.

Welcome to Just Me & My Moments! It’s a little space where I share the bits and pieces that make up my everyday life. From small joys to honest reflections, it’s all about capturing the moments that shape who I am. Nothing fancy, just real life, simple and meaningful, and one moment at a time as a widow.

I’m so happy you are here!

Card from Glenn

It’s already the end of the “Love” month.

Valentine’s Day looks different when the love of your life is no longer here. The cards, the flowers, the commercials celebrating “forever” can quietly remind you of what you’ve lost. And that ache is real. Grief doesn’t take a holiday very well. Especially a holiday that expresses your love for each other.

But love doesn’t disappear with loss. It lives on in memories, in shared laughter, in the lessons learned, and in the quiet moments when their presence still feels near. Valentine’s Day can become less about romantic gestures and more about honoring a love that shaped your life.

This year, I kept things simple. I lit his favorite vanilla candle and looked through old photos. I’m learning how to care for my heart again.

In the picture above, our first Valentine’s together many moons ago, he sent me a card that he wrote “I Love You” all over it. It was the sweetest thing I had ever seen, and I still cherish it today.

TUNA NOODLE CASSEROLE – Preheat oven to 375°F and butter a 2-quart dish. Cook 12 oz egg noodles; drain. In a bowl, mix 1 (10.5 oz) can cream of mushroom soup, 1/2 cup milk, 1 cup frozen peas, 1 cup shredded cheddar, 1/2 cup grated Parmesan, 1/2 tsp salt, and 1/4 tsp pepper. Stir in 2 (5 oz) cans of drained tuna and noodles. Pour into a dish. Combine 1/2 cup crushed potato chips with 2 tbsp melted butter and sprinkle on top. Bake 25–30 minutes until bubbly and golden. Such a classic casserole.

If today feels heavy, know you are not alone. Love endures, even through loss, and so do you.

🐕‍🦺DIXIE UPDATE: I had a scare with her a couple of weeks ago. She has been so healthy since I brought her home, but one early Saturday morning while we slept, she started gagging. I had no idea at 68 years old that I could move that fast from a dead sleep to get her outside before she got sick. It was the yellow bile, IYKYK, and she went back to sleep in her kennel.

Got up later that morning, and everything seemed normal. She ate her breakfast, and we had our walk. Around 1 pm, she started throwing up several times. By 5 pm, she was getting lethargic, and I knew I needed to take her to the ER Vet. They took us right in, but we sat in the room for over 2 hours. An assistant came in and said she wasn’t sure when we would be seen by the vet because there were too many emergencies. We left about 8 pm without seeing the vet. Dixie had stopped throwing up, so I thought the worst was over.

She didn’t have a good night, and we slept on the couch so I could help her outside quickly. She had a little water in the morning, but immediately threw up. We made an appointment with the ER Vet again when it opened. Was taken right in the room and again sat there for 2 hours. The vet came in and said there were so many emergencies, and she would see her when she could. I guess they didn’t think a dog who needed liquids and was lethargic was not an emergency. We left again. An hour later, I got a phone call wanting to know where I was. 🤬

I took her to my vet on Monday morning, and they immediately took her in, gave her a shot for throwing up and liquids under her fur. Within thirty minutes, Dixie was better and is now back to her normal, cute self. My vet told me where to go next time in case of an emergency. Live and learn, but that experience could’ve caused my dog to pass away.

🛋️FUN AND INTERESTING FACT: Did you know that houseplants need less water in February because growth slows during winter? Overwatering is one of the most common cold-weather plant mistakes.

Something to chew on

“LIFE is like a book, some chapters break you, some heal you and some surprise you. But unless you turn the page, you’ll never know what the next part of your story could be.”

I love this clever idea.

I’ve seen this done before, but not like this. You’ll never guess what the flowers are made of.

💗What I’m loving this month
What I’m watching, reading & listening to

📺 Bridgerton S4 (Netflix): Four episodes were released, and they didn’t disappoint. I love this series!! The next release is February 26th. I can’t wait. What did you think?

📺 The new season of Virgin River is coming out in March. Can’t wait. Here is the sneak peek trailer. The new season of Outer Banks is coming out this year. A date hasn’t been set yet. I just watched this series last year and loved it!!

📖 My good friend suggested reading Dorothea Frank because she knew I loved southern themed books. She has written 20 books set around the Lowcountry of South Carolina with a little humor. I will start with her first book, called By Invitation Only.
