Just Me & My Moments in June – Guest Room Glow-Up

Here you will find a collection of ideas, tips, and just thoughts. I love to share everything happening in my abundant life and what inspires me.

Welcome to Just Me & My Moments! It’s a little space where I share the bits and pieces that make up my everyday life. From small joys to honest reflections, it’s all about capturing the moments that shape who I am. Nothing fancy, just real life, simple and meaningful, and one moment at a time as a widow.

I’m so happy you are here!

guestroom before

I’ve been slowly cleaning out Mr. G’s office to turn it back into a guest room. So many memories in that room.

After it was cleaned out, I knew I wanted to add twin beds in there for guests. But I couldn’t figure out how I wanted it to look. So, I used AI to help transform my guest room from a blank slate into a cozy farmhouse retreat. I wanted the space to feel warm, welcoming, and styled without losing that calm, neutral look I love.

From the bedding to the accents, it gave me a clear vision for creating a room that feels both beautiful and comfortable for guests. It made the decorating process feel so much easier and, honestly, exactly what I had in my mind. The best part was seeing how AI pulled everything together with soft layers, natural textures, and just the right pops of color. I already have the bedskirt, and it’s exactly like the picture. It’s like AI read my mind. Scary.

If you need decorating ideas for your home or yard, give AI a try.

⛈️ DROUGHT: We are still in phase 3 of the drought. Some areas have really received a lot of rain in Central Florida. But not our area. Only able to water once a week and just sit and wait on the downpours we normally have this time of the year. Maybe I’m not doing the rain dance the right way. 💃🏻

🍓 STRAWBERRY CAKE – Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease and lightly flour a 9-inch round cake pan. In a large mixing bowl, cream together 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted, softened butter and 1 cup sugar until light and fluffy. Add 2 large eggs. Stir in 2 teaspoons vanilla and 1/2 cup sour cream until smooth. In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Gently fold in 1 1/2 cups of fresh chopped strawberries. Pour the batter into the pan. Top with 1/2 cup halved strawberries, cut side down. Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Serve!

bug catcher

I have an issue with dirt daubers that love to get under my front porch ceiling and build several nests. Once their nests dry up, it’s like concrete to get cleaned off. I have to get my ladder, a scrub brush, and a bucket of water to scrub them off the ceiling. Now that I’m at the age that I really don’t need to be up on a ladder that tall, I needed help.

I read about dirt dauber traps and, of course, was sceptical. But, with over 17,000 great reviews for this wasp catcher, I had to give it a try. It works!! So much better than I thought. There hasn’t been one nest under my porch roof yet this summer. You can see in the picture that it has caught a lot of insects so far. I put it in an area where you can’t see the trap from the street, and it’s easy to hang up. It comes with two traps.

🐕‍🦺DIXIE UPDATE: My little girl has been with me now for a year, and I can’t believe how much she has changed. When she came to me, she didn’t have much hair due to flea infestation. And I guess after good food and care, her body blossomed. Her hair became so thick and long that I had to start trimming her and using a shedding comb, which is a lifesaver to thin out that palmarian thick under hair, and dog grooming clippers, because her hair was growing so long. The Florida heat is tough on a dog with thick hair. The second picture is after a clipping, but I hadn’t started using the shedding comb yet.

She spent a week with the dog sitter while I was on my trip and seemed to enjoy it. Until I came to pick her up. She was sooooo happy. I missed her so much.

🚗 TRIP TO LOUISIANA: I’ve been sharing my trip on Instagram and will be sharing more later. What a great time we all had. The best part is that the weather cooperated for the majority of the trip, and it wasn’t so hot to walk around and enjoy the scenery. I just loved staying in the Steel Magnolia house. I have tons of pictures to share from there. Stay tuned.

🌑💐FUN AND INTERESTING FACTS: What is June’s birthstone and flower? What is June’s full moon called? June’s birthstones are a pearl, alexandrite, and moonstone, and a rose and honeysuckle are June’s flowers. I love pearls. The Strawberry Moon is named for the wild strawberries that ripen in some areas of the Northern Hemisphere this month.

IN CLOSING: Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus – Romans 3:24

Something to chew on

“Health does not always come from medicine. Most of the time it comes from peace of mind, peace in heart, peace in the soul. It comes from laughter and love.”

Grow your own lavender? One plant I wish I could grow in zone 9.

I love the smell of lavender, and look at these cookies.

💗What I’m loving this month
What I’m watching, reading & listening to

📺 I started the 5th season of Sweet Magnolias on Netflix. I love this show, but not too sure about this season. Sometimes I wish producers would leave a series on a high note.

📺 Have you watched season 3 of Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders? I’m not sure why I watch this series. But reality shows drag me in, and I can’t stop watching them.

📻 I found a new podcast to listen to when I need a little crime and murder in my life called True Crime Society. And this story, Maternal Instinct? The story of Taylor Parker and Reagan Hancock is just unbelievable. There is a documentary on Netflix, but podcasts seem to dig a bit deeper into the story.

Let me know of any true crime stories you’ve watched in the comments.
