Each season has its own simple pleasures. Summer is a time to kick back, relax, and soak up the sunshine to its fullest.

As a kid, summer was the best time ever! My favorite thing to do was to go to the city pool all afternoon. Fifty cents would get me in and also get a soda and a bag of chips. We could walk there and back. Life was so good.
But, as adults, we can also have that same kind of fund and love as we did as kids.
Summer has a magical way of slowing us down and encouraging us to savor life’s simplest pleasures. As the days grow longer and the sun shines brighter, it’s the perfect opportunity to step out of routine and embrace all the warmth, wonder, and joy the season offers.

Start by spending time outdoors. Whether it’s taking morning walks, enjoying your backyard, or lounging at the beach, sunshine and fresh air can lift your spirits and renew your energy. Try visiting a local park for a picnic, riding your bike through scenic trails, or planting something new in the garden. Nature has a way of reminding us to live in the moment.

Make memories with people you love. Host a cookout, plan a spontaneous day trip, or gather around a bonfire in the evening. These shared experiences often become cherished memories that last well beyond the season. Even simple things like stargazing together or enjoying an ice cream cone on a warm evening can be unforgettable.

Summer is also a great time to try something new. Take up a hobby you’ve been curious about, such as painting, kayaking, or even learning to cook new recipes with fresh seasonal produce. Slower summer days give you permission to explore without pressure.

Don’t forget to take time to rest. Enjoy lazy afternoons with a good book, afternoon naps, or simply watching the clouds drift by. Summer doesn’t have to be packed with activity to be meaningful—it’s also about finding peace in the pause.

Finally, embrace spontaneity. Say yes to last-minute adventures, let your feet go barefoot more often, and welcome the imperfections of the season—whether it’s a sudden rain shower or a sunburn from too much time outside. These are all part of what makes summer real, memorable, and uniquely joyful.
I would love to hear what your favorite thing to do in the summer is.
