Love sweets as much as I do but low carb and keto is keeping you from enjoying that? Let me tell you about 4 baking mixes that will satisfy that sweet tooth.

Love sweets as much as I do but low carb and keto is keeping you from enjoying that? Let me tell you about 4 baking mixes that will satisfy that sweet tooth.

I was recently sent 4 different baking mixes by Keto Bakes to see what I thought about them. I have been trying other baking mixes or making from scratch with really no luck at all. Either the taste wasn’t what I expected or the aftertaste from the artificial sweeteners used in them.

Each mix I tried from Keto Bakes is for keto lifestyles, but myself being low-carb, it works well for me too. All 4 mixes had simple ingredients to add to the mix and were easy to make.

Reminder to please follow the directions carefully on these mixes. When it calls for room temp eggs or any other item, it’s important to follow that. I usually just let the eggs, cream cheese, butter, etc. sit out on the countertop a couple of hours before I start mixing.

It’s also important to line your baking dishes with parchment paper and use metal clips to hold them to the sides. Makes it much easier to take out the cooled baked item from the pan.

I will rate with stars with 5 being excellent and 1 being I won’t eat that again.

So let’s get started.

Mixes I tried
Looking for a good dessert that is low carb/keto and really tastes great? I have found it and can't wait to share it with you.
Iced Lemon Loaf

The first mix I tried was the Lemon Loaf. Mr. G loves any kind of sweet bread, so I really made this one for him. He loves his sweets and is missing them from being low-carb with me.

The mix was very easy to make with ingredients you normally would have in your fridge for a keto and low-carb lifestyle. Butter, eggs, cream cheese, and heavy cream.

My oven is old and I can’t calibrate it to a good temp setting, so I have to watch closely on baking times. The recipe calls for 35-45 minutes, but I checked at 30 and it was done! I think a normal calibrated oven would cook for about 35 minutes easily.

Letting it completely cool and then icing it is also key. Leftovers were kept in the fridge.

Taste Test: We both loved this loaf! It was very moist with a wonderful lemon taste and lovely texture. No bad sweetener aftertaste and keeping it in the fridge didn’t change the texture or taste. We will try this again for sure! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies

I couldn’t wait to try these cookies! Especially with them being chewy. I’ve tried to make a few low-carb cookie recipes from scratch, but they just weren’t worth eating.

Butter and an egg are all you need to mix this recipe up. I used a cookie scoop as directed and then rolled the cookies into balls and placed them on a silicone baking mat on my cookie sheet. Silicone mats keep cookies from turning really brown on the bottom. I did chill them as suggested for 5 minutes before baking. I have noticed that several recipes I’ve tried suggest chilling the dough before baking. I pressed the dough balls down a bit and baked them for 10 minutes. The recipe calls for 12 – 15 minutes.

After they came out of the oven, I tried the trick of dropping the cookie sheet on the counter, but that didn’t seem to work on my cookies. Let them cool completely so they will harden a bit. Store leftovers in the fridge.

Taste Test: The day I cooked them, they were nice and chewy. Loved the texture, flavor, and especially the chocolate chips. After they had been in the fridge, that wonderful right-from-the-oven taste was gone. They were still chewy, but we didn’t like them cold. The 3-star rating is mainly because of the taste they have out of the fridge. ⭐⭐⭐

Frosted cinnamon rolls

I was really excited to try this mix since I have only made cinnamon rolls from scratch once in my entire life. For some reason, I have trouble getting yeast to work well for me.

This recipe is much like making regular homemade cinnamon rolls. After mixing the dough, you roll it out, put on the cinnamon filling, roll it up and slice it up to put in the pan. So, this recipe does take a little more time to make. The instructions about using parchment paper to roll the dough into a log is a must. Keep your fingers wet and your knife wet when you slice the dough.

The recipe calls for an 8 x 8 pan to cook the rolls in but I used my trusty 10″ cast iron skillet. Yes, I didn’t follow the instructions on this part, but my skillet has never let me down before. They baked up divinely and rose nicely too. I started watching them at 20 minutes but ended up baking them for 23 minutes as the recipe required. I let the rolls completely cool before I put on the frosting, but you could wait until they are just warm but not hot before icing. Chill leftovers, if there are any, in the fridge.

Taste Test: Let me just say, Mr. G could not get enough of these. The texture and taste were so much like homemade cinnamon rolls with no sweetener aftertaste. The icing just took them over the top! We both had two the day I made them. Mr. G tried one straight from the fridge the next day for breakfast and he loved them cold. So did I! Even though there is a little bit more work involved to make these, it was well worth it. If I could give more than 5 stars I would on this mix.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

frosted fudgy brownies

Now for the piece de resistance of the 4. Oh my. Just because it’s a brownie mix puts one up on the other mixes and it being fudgy, gives it another point. But that doesn’t mean it will taste good because I’m a snob when it comes to brownies.

The instructions on this mix were really easy to follow and mix up. You will need Refined Coconut Oil and the eggs will need to be room temp before mixing together.

After mixing together all the items, the mixture will be rather thick. So, you will have to spread out the mixture with an angled spatula in your 8 x 8 pan. Lining the pan with parchment paper and using metal clips to the paper to the sides of the pan is a must for easy clean-up. Don’t overbake!

The instructions say to put them in the fridge after they have cooled from baking to help bring the sweetness out. I enjoyed them right out of the fridge or at room temp.

Taste Test: They were fudgy. They were chewy. They were sooooo good! My favorite way to eat them was to put one square in the microwave for about 10 seconds and add whipped topping on top with a few raspberries. Mr. G did not try these because he isn’t a brownie fan. (I don’t understand that!😊) So he didn’t have an opinion about the brownies but he did say they smelled and looked like regular flour brownies. These are worth 5 stars and more! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

All in all, I was very pleased with all 4 of these baked mixes and will order more in the future. I hope to review many other items Keto Bakes has to offer in the future.
