I have to tell you about something that genuinely surprised me even after living in Florida a long time. Mr. G and I took a long weekend trip out to the Forgotten Coast in November a few years back, out toward Apalachicola, St. George Island, and Wakulla Springs. Then we made a stop at Torreya State Park along the way. I wasn’t expecting much, honestly, because when you think fall foliage, you think New England or the mountains, not Florida. But this park sits up on these bluffs above the Apalachicola River, and the whole hillside was covered in some gold and orange and deep red. I just stood there for a minute to take it all in.
We hiked part of the trail along the ravines, and it felt like we’d driven into a completely different state. The terrain up there is hillier than anything I’m used to seeing around here, and with the leaves turning, it honestly looked more like North Georgia than the Sunshine State. It was one of those little moments that reminded me how much I still don’t know about my own state after all these years, and how good it feels to go find something unexpected close to home instead of always assuming you have to travel far to see something beautiful.
🐕🦺DIXIE’S CORNER: Dixie here, and guess what? September is SO hot, and it’s not fair because Mom says it’s supposed to be fall, but my paws don’t believe her one bit. Every morning we go for our walk super early before the sun gets mean, and I love walks, walks are my favorite thing ever, but the grass. I don’t like it most of the time. It’s SO tall and SO wet and when I’m trying to do my business, it tickles my whole belly and I can’t even hold still, I do this wiggly little dance, turn in circles because it tickles so so much and I’m trying to be fancy and ladylike about it but it’s just not working. Mom stands there laughing at me every single morning, every time, she thinks it’s the funniest thing ever, and I’m just out here trying to concentrate! So if your pup is doing the wiggle dance in the tall grass too, they aren’t alone.
🍳EASY BAKED CHICKEN: Cover a baking sheet with foil. Add chicken tenders, or chicken breasts that have been sliced in half the long way. Generously brush each piece of chicken with Ken’s Steakhouse Honey Mustard salad dressing. Add salt and pepper to taste. Add some dried basil leaves and sprinkle them on top of the tenders. Bake at 375 degrees F for 25 minutes, or until a meat thermometer reads 165 degrees F. Let it sit for a few minutes before slicing. Make extra for salads, tacos, or casseroles.

School bus yellow, the iconic color of school buses, was formulated and adopted in 1939 for maximum visibility for drivers and pedestrians. The fear of school is called Didaskaleinophobia, which affects 5% of all children.
