When My Hands Need Something to Make

My desire is to slow down, pull out my craft supplies, and find comfort and creativity in making something beautiful with my hands.

My desire is to slow down, pull out my craft supplies, and find comfort and creativity in making something beautiful with my hands.

Lately, I’ve been feeling the urge to create something with my hands. Maybe it’s the quiet afternoons here, or maybe it’s just my heart looking for a little color and purpose again. Something is comforting about crafts and the way ribbon, paper, paint, or fabric can turn into something meaningful with just a bit of time and love.

As a widow, I’ve learned that keeping my hands busy often helps settle my thoughts. Crafting gives me space to breathe, to reflect, and to pour a little creativity into my days. It doesn’t have to be perfect or fancy. Sometimes it’s just about the simple joy of making something from nothing.

So I think it’s time to pull out the supplies, clear off the table, and let inspiration lead the way. A new wreath, a seasonal centerpiece, maybe even a little DIY project just for fun. Whatever it turns out to be, I know the process itself will be a gift. 💛

So, I headed over to Etsy to check out some craft ideas to see what grabbed my eye. Here are a few items I’m interested in.

Custom Embroidery

I used to embroider and cross-stitch a LOT!! I mean a LOT. I have several pillows that I put out for the seasons. I’m so grateful to have a few things my mom and grandmother embroidered that I can also display. Embroidery is addictive, so be prepared if you start.

Junk Journaling

Junk journaling is new to me, but it’s a bit different than writing in a journal. You express yourself with pieces of paper, stickers, and embellishments. I would love to do this with pressed flowers from my yard.

Punch Needle

I’ve never done a punch needle item before, but I decided this is what I want to try. It’s a larger needle for yarn and a larger template. Larger is good for my aging eyes, and I also hear that these are quick projects. I like that because sometimes I get bored with larger projects.

I love the idea of finding a craft project to help fill some time and keep my brain working. I can’t wait to see how the punch needle project works out and will share it with you soon.

These also make great gift ideas for Mother’s Day, birthdays, showers, and the holidays.
