DIY Easy Heart Burlap Banner

I am having so much fun with my latest burlap projects and I can’t wait to show you a really EASY DIY heart banner you can make in a short time and a great project for the kids to help with. I was needing a few hearts in the house during the month of love.
Supplies you need:
- burlap banner
- heart pattern either using a cutting machine or your own
- freezer paper
- craft paint of your choice
- stencil dauber brush
- iron
I wrote a post recently on making a craft bag to carry all my sewing items in and this project will be done the same way. But in a smaller version. There are different types of banners to choose from.
Let’s get started
You will need to either use your cutting machine to make your pattern or cut out your own. You can print out this 8.5 x 11 PDF on card stock with 2 hearts that fit these banners perfectly. Cut the page in half, cut out the hearts in the middle and then trace on freezer paper.
Once you have your hearts cut out on freezer paper, place the shiny side down and iron on the banners to look like the picture above. It doesn’t take much to get them to stick and I use the cotton setting.
Now you can start daubing the paint on. Don’t use a brush and go side to side or the paint will go under the stencil. Paint up and down. The paint goes on very easily too. If you are planning on using your banners outdoors, try outdoor or waterproof craft paint.
Here is a quick look at the back of these banners. They have a coating on them that keeps the paint from bleeding through. I love this. Makes painting projects so much neater.
On one of the hearts, I added red glitter paint after I put on a coat of red paint. I wanted a bit of shine on one of them.
After you are done, peel off the stencils, string together and you are done! Hang up and enjoy!
