There are many reasons why people love living in Florida. Here are some common factors that attract people to the Sunshine State.
Are you considering making the move to the Sunshine State? Florida, with its warm climate, diverse landscapes, and vibrant communities, offers a unique and blissful living experience for residents. In this blog post, we’ll explore the key aspects that make Florida an ideal place to call home.
Climate you gotta love
Florida is known for its warm and sunny weather. The mild winters and hot summers appeal to those who enjoy a more tropical climate. The abundance of sunshine can positively impact mood and outdoor activities.
What more can I say about the weather in Florida than it’s warm 95% of the year! While the state boasts an average of 237 days of sunshine yearly, we have our occasional cold days. But it’s not often and usually lasts only a couple of days. The further south you go, the better the weather with less chance of cold temps in winter.
water, water everywhere
Florida boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the United States. From the Gulf Coast to the Atlantic Coast, residents can access stunning sandy shores and crystal-clear waters, providing ample opportunities for relaxation and recreation.
Not a beach person? There are also so many other water areas all over the state you will love too. There are more than 1,000 recognized springs in Florida and no two are alike. Great for swimming, floating, or diving.
Outdoor Activities for an active life
The state offers a wide range of outdoor activities, including water sports, hiking, biking, golfing, and fishing. Whether you prefer the beach, national parks, or wildlife reserves, Florida has diverse landscapes for outdoor enthusiasts.
State parks are our favorite places to visit when the weather is lovely. There are some you can drive through or walk. If you love taking pictures, this is your time to shine.
places to play for the whole family
Florida is home to world-renowned theme parks and offers many family-friendly destinations that cater to various interests and ages. Residents often appreciate the proximity to these attractions for entertainment and leisure.
Florida is also known for its roadside attractions and many of those are still around to enjoy. If you love off-the-road fun, check some of them out for a different kind of fun. There are still several “old Florida” areas to enjoy too.
save money with No State Income Tax
Florida is one of the few states in the U.S. that does not have a state income tax. This can be a significant financial benefit for residents, especially those from states with higher tax burdens. There is also a homestead tax to reduce property taxes and no sales tax on food.
the best Wildlife
Florida’s unique ecosystems and wildlife, including manatees, alligators, and a variety of bird species, attract nature lovers. The vast wetland throughout the state is known for its rich biodiversity. If you love creatures of any kind, you will the environment Florida has to offer.
Where there is natural water, there is more than likely a gator there. Manatees are found in warm water like the Suwannee River and Crystal River or enter springs like Wakulla Springs, Weeki Wachee Springs, or Homosassa Springs. Let’s be real by saying there are a lot of critters and bugs throughout the state. Always watch where you walk.
Retirement Destination
Many retirees are drawn to Florida for its favorable tax policies, warm climate, and numerous retirement communities. The state’s retirement-friendly atmosphere contributes to its popularity among older adults.
We moved to Florida over 20 years ago to live the retirement lifestyle and couldn’t be happier. We do live in a smaller retirement-gated community with so much to do for an active lifestyle. It’s quiet and safe. Important for us older folks. Everything is 15 minutes away from our community and when the time comes there are so many independent and assisted living facilities to choose from. The Independent Living facilities in our area are like really nice apartments with benefits and you can come and go as you please.
Let’s play ball!
Florida has a strong sports culture, with multiple professional sports teams and a variety of college sports programs. Whether you’re a fan of football, basketball, baseball, or soccer, there’s a team to support and enjoy.
Sports is an all-year event in Central Florida. Many professional baseball teams spend their winters here and also many spring training games to attend. Pickleball is booming here in Florida and is loved by many with courts at every turn.
Florida’s charm extends far beyond its iconic beaches and attractions. It’s a state that embraces diversity, encourages an active lifestyle, and provides a unique blend of cultural experiences. Whether you’re starting a family, pursuing a career, or enjoying retirement, Florida offers a slice of paradise for everyone seeking a blissful living experience.
It’s important to note that while many people, like myself, love living in Florida, personal preferences and priorities will vary. Some individuals may find certain aspects challenging, such as hurricanes, high humidity, or the cost of living.
Overall, the combination of climate, outdoor activities, cultural diversity, and other factors contributes to the appeal of living in Florida for many people.
