Summer means cool, clean, and simple when it comes to decor. Simple easy cottage-style ideas for you to try in your home.
What I love most about the cottage style is preserving items from the past but making the home cozy all at the same time. To me, farmhouse and cottage go hand in hand with a few differences.
Decorating with neutral and white colors overall with a pop of color, mix and match wooden distressed furniture, simple kitchen decor such as plain cabinets, tons of flowers, mixing patterns, vintage wall prints, fun DIY projects, and yes, wallpaper is coming back and is perfect for the cottage look.
I love a bit of color and summertime is when I really enjoy using bright colors to enhance the cottage look. I think of blue, pink, yellow and reds. Adding a bit of color here and there will really add some joy to any room in the house.
Whether it’s a small vignette, a wreath on the door, a colorful throw, or flowers. It’s so easy to bring the summertime to our homes. Here are a few inspirational ideas you may want to try and where you can find the like items used.
Kitchen
We all know the kitchen is the place where we spend so much of our time and the perfect place to start when we want to add a bit of summertime decor.
I love this simple idea for the kitchen by Golden Boys and Me. A simple bar is added to the end of a kitchen island to hang items that remind you of summer.
Adjustable Black Bar | Yellow Dish Towels | Round Cutting Board | Hanging Basket
Bedroom
The easiest way I’ve added color to my bedroom for summer is by using blankets or quilts. I love how they used all the yellows and blues in this bedroom for such a bright addition. Be sure to check out the Maine Summer home for more inspiration through this lovely cottage.
Yellow and White Check Bedspread | Blue and White Lamp | Blue and White Quilt
Vignette
This is my favorite way to decorate since vignettes can be put in several places in the home for a quick seasonal change. Here is a little summer vignette inspo by Stone Sable.
Round Rattan Tray | White Ceramic Lantern | White Pot with Faux Plant | White Candle Holder
DIY
I just had to throw a DIY project to make for summertime. A Seaglass Candleholder is just adorable and seems really easy to make. It gives your home a bit of a coastal vibe. Ahhh. The beach is calling me now.
4-inch Chicken Wire | Seaglass Spray Paint | Wood Slice
styling a hutch
Hutch styling is another perfect way to show off the seasons and this hutch by The Painted Hinge is no exception. I love how she used blue Mason jars and other blue jars. And the touch of seasonal flowers is perfection.’
Vintage Blue Mason Jars | Large Blue Glass Jugs | Wooden Carry Caddy | Galvanized Feeder
front porch
The front porch is where I need to really work on making it have some summer vibes and I’m glad I came across this post by Tatortots and Jello and her sweet porch idea. I’m such a huge fan of galvanized pots and these are perfect for plantings and flowers. I love the use of pink all around and that ladder to hold plants.
