Try these garage storage ideas and keep clutter at bay. These organizing hacks will help you to keep everything in its perfect place and easy to find.
When it comes to organization, I think the garage is the one place we really don’t care to think about. It’s a catchall for so many of us.
Our garage is in such disarray but it’s neat and you can find things. Sometimes. But, we really need to delete those things we don’t need anymore.
Even Mr. G said it was time to clear out the things we don’t need anymore. I think I fell more in love with him at that very moment.
Mr. G’s favorite magazine is Family Handyman and I loved their ideas for garage storage. I am sharing some of our favs and hope this list will help you get your garage clutter-free mojo going for a clutter-free area.
Wire Shelving
Seems the first choice of shelving is the classic wire version. Tons of shelving styles with baskets and bins to use with them. These are also great in the home.
- Wire Shelves
- Wire Baskets in different sizes
- Front-load wire baskets
- Large hangers
- Metal round and square storage tubs
Stackable Bins
These stackable bins will take some carpentry know-how and tools. The instructions for Storage Towers are pretty easy to follow and not very expensive to make.
Ceiling Track Storage
Mr. G saw this and immediately said this is how we will store Christmas in the future. I’m actually excited about this because right now all our Christmas bins are taking up space on the floor in our garage.
Instructions – Screw 2x2s to the ceiling framing with 3-1/2-in. screws spaced every 2 ft. Use the bins as a guide for spacing the 2x2s. The lips on the bins should just brush against the 2x2s when you’re sliding the bins into place. Then center and screw 1x4s to the 2x2s with 2-in. screws.

Flexible Storage Wall
Don’t have much room? Here is a great solution. It’s perfect for that skinny walk area between the wall and your car. Skinny shelved and a work area that closes up when not in use. I love that it’s skinny enough for shelving to fit next to the garage door hardware.
Other Storage ideas
There are so many ways to arrange and organize a garage. Even if it’s just a small corner area.
- Cabinets
- Tool Racks
- Sports Equipment Storage
- Heavy Duty Storage Unit
- Mop and Broom Holder
- Cord Extension Holder
- Corner shelving
