Do Chores Together!
I know the word “chores” is a bad word. Who really loves doing chores?
But I do enjoy doing chores with my husband. We do yard work together all the time. He does the heavy work and I do the pretty stuff. Like planting the flowers or some trimming. The finishing touches. I love that about us. He does the things I can’t do and I do the things he can’t do. It works.
I know you are wondering, “What chores can we do together?”
Here are a few:
- Clean up the kitchen after a meal
- Cook together
- Deep clean a room
- Clean out the garage
- Fold the laundry together
- Make up the bed/change the sheets together
- Yard work
How about you doing a chore your loved one HATES to do
I hate, detest, gives me great pain, makes me grippy, and just downright loathe, is vacuuming. Not because I hate the chore, it’s because I have to pull around the Beast. Yes, that’s what I call my 40-year-old Rainbow Vacuum. When I was younger, I didn’t mind pulling it throughout the house. But with age, it’s getting harder and harder to pull it around and it’s getting to where it doesn’t do a really good job (what I consider a good job) anymore. Mr. G will go to the garage or another room while I vacuum because he doesn’t want to hear me growl and moan. (I do that just to remind him how much I detest the vacuum)
You ask, “Why not buy another lighter vacuum?” Someday I will. The one I want is rather expensive. Just like the Rainbow was when I purchased it all those years ago and its still around. I just hate to stop using it when it still does a decent job. But I have wished, on occasions, that it would not start up!!
I asked Mr. G the other day what chore he hates the most and would love that I do. I thought he would maybe say mow the yard or take out the trash. But he said he would love it if I would take the Christmas boxes out of the attic! I almost spit out my water.
Here’s the problem. The steps and width of that area are just too tight because the pull-down stairs must fit between the ceiling joists. The boxes really aren’t that heavy. A few have to be turned a certain way to go through the hole. The Christmas tree bag is a big headache to get through the hole. Mr. G is at the top of the stairs and I push the boxes up the stairs until he grabs it and slides it over on the attic floor. This is not a job for the aging.
Now we only take the “body bag”, I mean, the Christmas tree bag up in the attic. We stack all the plastic storage boxes in the garage. This one change makes that chore much easier to bear.

What chore do you HATE doing?
Do small things with great love!
I’m just a country girl loving my geeky life with my wonderful husband, always taking pictures, getting my hands dirty in the garden, being crafty, exploring with travels and enjoying all this on a budget. But above all, living my faith as a child of God!

The chores I hate doing are ironing and cleaning the bathrooms. I don’t mind doing everything else. It would take a miracle for my husband to do chores around the house, but I don’t mind. I’m such a perfectionist that I prefer to do them myself. I know I should change that. 🙂
Miracles happen everyday. 🙂 He may surprise you one day.
