I’ve been told I love to ramble on, so why not pass along some of my ramblings from this past month to all of you!
When I was decorating for fall last year, I wrote a post about how the color “orange” has great qualities people love. Even though it’s not my favorite color, when you look at this vintage fall setting in the picture above, the orange grabs you right off. As you know, I’m always looking for vintage items and @oldcottonwood IG account just makes me drool with all the really neat vintage items where this picture came from.
When this time of the year rolls around, I always think back to when my son was little and he loved to Trick or Treat. At that time, he was really into Burt and Ernie, his favorite Sesame Street characters.
At that time, it really didn’t cost much to make your own clothes, which I did a lot of. Pattern costs were around $1.00 whereas today they are around $20.
So off we went to Walmart and picked up the pattern above, felt for the head and hands, and material for the shirt. He wore that outfit for a couple of years he loved it so much. I miss those days of sewing for the simple joy of it.
something to chew on
“Every situation in life is temporary. So, when life is good, make sure you enjoy and receive it fully. And when life is not so good, remember that it will not last forever and better days are on the way.” – Jenni Young
What I’m watching & listening to
🎥 I saw the trailer for a movie I plan on watching called The Hill. I love great true stories and this one looks like it will be one of those. You can’t go wrong with Randy Quaid, Bonnie Bedelia, and Scott Glenn as some of the cast. I’m a huge fan of movies with Randy Quaid in them. Let me know if you have seen this one yet.
🎥 For all my crime buddies. Have you watched the 2nd season of the Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal on Netflix? No spoilers here. Just watch it!!
🎥 Hallmark Christmas movies are starting on October 20th! Fa la la la laaaaaaaaaa I’m a sucka for Hallmark Christmas movies.
I would love to hear your suggestions for crime podcasts to add to my list.

I love that shot of him in his Bert suit! It’s so cute! I love memories like that.
Your son looks so adorable in that suit. Pretty memories to treasure for life.
It makes me so happy when Christmas movies come back out on the TV as I love the festive time of the year. I did my autumn decor a few weeks ago but I want to get some more pieces x
Ah, the nostalgia of Halloween and handmade costumes! It’s heartwarming to reminisce about those precious moments with your son, especially when he was so enthusiastic about Burt and Ernie. The fact that you made costumes yourself adds a personal touch and shows the creativity that went into celebrating the holiday. It’s amazing how things have changed over the years, not just in terms of patterns but also in the way we celebrate.
Fall is my favorite season, I just love the colors, the energy, and the buzz….And of course Halloweeeeeennnn…I can’t wait!
My mom and I would make my costume together when I was little too and those were the best memories. I love fall and still love Halloween though I don’t quite dress up the way I used to. There’s still something magical about it. I’ve been wanting to watch the Murdaugh Murders also…that trial was fascinating.
This week I just had a lot of holidays and I watched a lot of movies. I love your entertainment recommendations add a personal touch. Keep sharing these delightful anecdotes and insights.
Sounds like you are really in a fall mood! I had missed your previous post about the color orange – thank you for sharing it.
