I’ve been told I love to ramble on, so why not pass along some of my ramblings from this past month to all of you!
Welcome to My Life Abundant, a collection of ideas, tips, and inspiration. I love to share everything happening in my abundant life and the inspiration I have found from others around the World Wide Web.
When this time of the year rolls around, I always think back to when my son was little and he loved to Trick or Treat. He was really into Burt and Ernie, his favorite Sesame Street characters when he was little.
At that time, it really didn’t cost much to make your own clothes, which I did a lot of. Pattern costs were around $1.00 whereas today they are around $20.
So off we went to Walmart and picked up the pattern above, felt material for the head and hands, and material for the shirt. He wore that outfit for a couple of years he loved it so much. I miss those days of sewing for the simple joy of it.
Do you have a Halloween outfit your kids wore or that you wore that has been your favorite?
And that same young man in the Halloween costume picture is turning 45 today. I can’t believe my baby is that old. He has worked hard to achieve his goals in life. He teaches band to high school children and has also started a youth orchestra in his area near Memphis, TN where he is the conductor which has grown so much in two years. He is on the board of the local orchestra and the player’s liaison. I’m so proud of him!! Now hand me is tissue so I can cry. 🥲
EASY BAKED CHICKEN: Cover a baking sheet with foil. Add chicken tenders, or chicken breasts that have been sliced in two the long way. Generously brush each piece of chicken with Ken’s Steakhouse Honey Mustard salad dressing. Add salt and pepper to taste. Add some dried basil leaves, and sprinkle them on top of the tenders. Bake at 375 degrees F for 25 minutes, or until a meat thermometer reads 165 degrees F. Let sit a few minutes before slicing. Make extra for salads, tacos, or casseroles.
QUESTION: Have you seen the Nutter Butter TikTok channel yet? I can’t figure out WTH is going on there. Let me know your thoughts. Quick story – when my son was born they brought my dinner to me. There were Nutter Butter cookies on the plate. That’s all I ate. That’s my wonderful memory of that cookie. I’m not so sure anymore. 😝

🍂 FUN AND INTERESTING FACTS: The season was originally just called harvest and autumn came around much later in the 1300s, according to CNN. When English poets started using the phrase “the fall of leaves” it became very fashionable to call the season fall. But by the mid-1800s, after the split of the colonies from England led to language change, England reverted back to Autumn and the American upstarts retained fall. 🍁

The older we get, the chances go up to 30% over the age of 50 to develop colon polyps. But, by having a colonoscopy at around the age of 50, you can change those stats. If colon cancer runs in your family, your doctor may suggest you have one earlier or if you have colon issues.
I had my second colonoscopy the other day and all was good. A couple of small polyps were removed.
I know this test can seem very embarrassing, but cancer isn’t embarrassing and it’s a killer. The prep is the worst part of the whole test. It does take a day to clean out your intestinal area. The actual colonoscopy is very simple, quick and you are put to sleep. BEST NAP EVER!!!
Was 2 days of being uncomfortable worth it to know that my colon is in good shape? It sure is. Don’t wait until it’s too late. Colon cancer is the 3rd leading killer now. Don’t be a statistic.

What I’m watching, reading & listening to
🎥 Taken at Birth is a 3 part series on Hulu that…….It’s a must-watch. Even though the original story happened 50 years ago, the consequences of this doctor still affect hundreds of people today. There is also a book.
🎥 It’s been over 20 years since the death of Laci Peterson and Netflix has a new documentary that brings out more to the story. I would like to see a new trial on this. There is too much evidence that wasn’t presented in the first trial.
🎥 Also on Netflix are Aloha and Apollo 13: Survival Loved them both. I also started rewatching Madam Secretary. Great cast. Into the Fire: A Lost Daughter is a tug-at-your-heart documentary. So many failed this young girl.
🎥 All my favorite fall movies. Mona Lisa Smile, Stepmom, Kramer vs. Kramer, Baby Boom, and my favs, When Harry Met Sally and You’ve Got Mail.
🎄Are you ready for this? The Hallmark Christmas movie schedule is out. Do you love those movies as much as I do?
Let me know your favorite show, music, or movie you have watched or listened to lately. I’m always looking for new viewing pleasures.

This was such a sweet love letter to your son. It hit me right in the mommy feels!
I loved Ernie and Bert too. Such a great costume.
Aww. I loved reading your post. Your memories of sewing Halloween costumes for your son brought a smile to my face. It’s so special how those simple moments turn into cherished memories.
omg the walk through memory lane made me super emotional. This is so beautiful. Bless both of you.
I remember when it was affordable to buy patterns and make clothes. I used to do it for fun too. My favorite memory probably being sewing matching pajamas for my kids and their teddy bears. 🙂
Congrats to your son on his accomplishments. He looks like Ryan Reynolds in that photo. 🙂
I clicked over to the Nutter Butter page. I wish I hadn’t. What the what are they doing over there???
This is such a beautiful walk in the memory lane. It was so heartwarming reading your account of sewing Halloween costumes for your son.
Wow, 45! I love to look back at old photos of Halloween. I think my favourite costume was when I dressed my daughter up as Coraline with a yellow rainjacket and a blue wig. She looked so good.
It is such a magical time, it’s so fantastic that you could make costumes! I do not have that talent, but there is a picture of my sister and I as Cat in the Hat characters that I love.
Aww what a sweet photo and memories of you son, wow 45yrs goes quickly, I’m feeling that with my eldest who is now in the middle of teenhood
