I’ve been told I love to ramble on, so why not pass along some of my ramblings from this past month.
I’m always thankful when August is over and hoping there will be a reprieve of the heat in September here in Central Florida. The humidity is so heavy right now. But, September also brings the height of hurricane season. Let’s hope we don’t have a repeat of Hurricane Irma anytime soon!
Let’s Talk WordPress
Changes are coming and you should be prepared.
- Are you using any of these plugins? If so, they might be slowing your site down. Google loves fast websites and could penalize your site rankings. Here is a list of recommended WordPress plugins.
- Google now penalizes your site if you aren’t HTTPS. This started back in July. If your site isn’t HTTPS compliant yet, please let MaAnna at BlogAid help you with this. She also does a site audit that will find security problems and speed up your site. The FREE version of HTTPS will come back and bit you and not a good choice.
- WordPress version 5.0 will be coming out soon and you may want to follow these instructions and wait on updating to the 5.0 version.
NOTE: MaAnna has done my sites audits, converted my site over to HTTPS and I highly recommend her services. Be sure to sign up for her weekly updates. She keeps you ahead of the curve when it comes to WordPress news and she also tries out plugins to recommend for you to use on your site. I will be taking her SEO class after she does my next site audit scheduled next month. Here is a list of all the services she offers for WordPress users. And MaAnna will speak to you in a way you will understand.
Also, with Gutenberg and changes with WordPress, it would be a good idea to follow someone who knows their stuff and MaAnna will keep you ahead of the curve. You will want to make sure your theme and plugins will be compatible with Gutenberg. Stop by BlogAid to read more.
***I am not being paid to tell you about the services MaAnna of BlogAid offers to WordPress users. I just love her work!

Cover Up That Camera When Not In Use
Isn’t this a neat little device you can put on your monitor or laptop? And it looks so much nicer than a piece of tape over your camera lens. It’s just a simple webcam cover which can keep your life private. I have heard horror stories of laptops open and their camera being hacked. Perfect for students. Isn’t your privacy worth a few dollars?

Just ramblin’ on,
Tammy
I’m just a country girl loving my geeky life with my wonderful husband, always taking pictures, getting my hands dirty in the garden, being crafty, exploring with travels and enjoying all this on a budget. But above all, living my faith as a child of God!

I popped over to see if any of my plugins were on the list of slow ones and thankfully, they were not. Of course, I’m always looking for ways to speed loading time.
I find it interesting that Google penalize you for certain things on your website. I understand some reasons why but other times I get frustrated LOL. I’m glad you have a list of recommended ones.
I am lucky I have not had any problems with my site so I hope I am in compliance. I know it cools off but i love the hot weather and get sad when summer ends.
I need to get a webcam cover. Just in case. Granted, most of what people would see is my scary face and me screeching in the background for someone else to clean up this house once in a while.
I’ll be visiting Florida in October so I hope the hurricane season is tame!
I am not using any of the plugins that will slow me down. Now I will wait on updating when the new 5.0 version arrives. Thanks for the information.
I really enjoyed reading this post. This is really helpful information. I love webcam cover. I have to purchase one for my laptop.
On our weather last night, it mentioned a hurricane moving toward the panhandle of Florida. Hope it stays out at sea. I need to have someone just look over my site to see if there are improvements that can be made. Will contact your friend up Blog Aid. Thanks for the recommendation.
I can’t believe a laptop camera could or would be hacked like that! I mean I can, but wow, so scary!
Love your ramblings, and helpful links!! I’m clicking through to check some out for my site, so thank you. And also, gorgeous first photo!
I have so many fears about the webcam–it’s so scary! I cover it up occasionally but I really need to do it all the time. I never even really use it!
It’s really important to be updated with the changes on policies if you’re a blogger. Thanks for the link to plugins and guides! I love that easy and movable cover for the laptop camera!
I love that webcam cover! I always forget about it but I need to be more conscientious about it! Thanks for the heads up!
I really need to take a look at my site speed, I’m sure it could be improved! And excited to read more about free looping, I’ve been waiting for Tailwind to come out with it and I’m still on the waitlist.
Hi Shell, The free looping with IFTTT really does work and I love it. Its worth the little bit of work to get it going, but once done you just sit back.
Glad that there is no one on the lists that I am currently using. Thanks for sharing these tips.
I still have so much to learn about wordpress so I appreciate the links and all that. It’s nice to be able to maximize the tools that you can use to improve your blog!
I love that web camera cover. It looks so much nicer than a piece of tape. You honestly never know now a days what may be watching
There have been a lot of changes in Google’s algorithms of late. We switched over to HTTPS a year back well in time. A very useful and interesting article.
I’m going to have to look into all of those wordpress issues. I’m pretty sure I don’t have an https:// and I need to speed up my site a bit.
This is a great round up! As for that WordPress update, I’m a bit unsure about that. It sounds like such a hassle tho
