Looking for gift ideas for the gardener on your list? Here are 15 items any gardener would love to have that will surely get their hands dirty.
Gardening is one of my most favorite passions. But, the act of gardening can be hard work and if I can find items to make the job easier, I want to use and share them. Here are a few garden “get your hands dirty” gift ideas for the gardener in your life or someone who is wanting to start gardening.
A few must items for the beginning gardener
Galvanized Steel Watering Can – I’ve used plastic and metal watering cans in my years of gardening. I prefer metal versions because they last.
Ratchet Pruning Shears – A ratchet pruner will take care of many different size branches when it comes to pruning. No need to have different hand pruners, when this one will take care of it all.
Hand Tools – Garden hand tools are the backbone of any garden job. These have very strong handles and last.
Garden Gloves – I have gone through so many cloth garden gloves until I found these. They are rubber on the palm side of the glove and don’t tear while you work. You can also wash these with no problem.
Thick Kneeling Pad – When you garden, you are on your knees a lot. You want a thick pad to give you comfort while you work and this 2-inch pad does the job.
Garden Apron – An apron is perfect for carrying all your small garden supplies.
Garden Bucket Caddy – But, I prefer the bucket caddy. It holds many tools and other supplies and when you are weeding or clipping limbs, they can go in the bucket area. This is a double-duty garden item.
Garden Clogs – When you are in the garden, you get muddy. Especially your feet. These clogs are all plastic and easy to wash off. I have these by the door and step into anytime I go out in the yard.
Items for the more experienced gardener
Harvest Metal Basket – Perfect for harvesting all the bounty in the garden. You can wash all the dirt off your veggies while they stay in the basket.
Floral Scissors – These are the best scissors to keep at your potting table.
Metal Plant Markers – I have made garden markers of all kinds that only fall apart after a couple of years. But these metal ones last. They come in several sizes and just write on them with a waterproof garden marker pen.
Square Foot Gardening – The is THE gardening book to have if you want to learn how to Square Foot Garden. His system works and I’ve been using it for years.
Collapsible Folding Outdoor Utility Wagon – I learned about this wagon from a Master Gardener friend who had one. Love it! It folds up nicely to carry around in the car. It carries so much.
Gardening Scrabble – When you aren’t in the garden, how about playing a garden game.
Potting Bench – I have a similar version of this potting bench and I love it. I have a place to store my pots, dirt, and other supplies.
Mosquito Repellent Bracelets – Never forget to use some kind of repellent when you go outside to work in the garden. The last thing a gardener wants to worry about is pesky buzzing and bites.
