Smiles from Grandkids

July is always my favorite time of the year in our Garden Club, because we have Grandkids Day.  There are many clubs in our community and many participate in Grankids Day all the month of July.  Our Garden Club has been participating for 3 years now and this is my favorite activity we do all year long.

This year we decided to bring the party indoors because it was getting so hot even if we had it during the early morning and under shade.  And because of this, we had over 100 people show up!  Only 40 grandkids (thank goodness) and the rest were family and guests.

First, they enjoyed crafts by making a sun catcher and an Irrigation Man.

It just amazes me how well these kids picked up on the instructions and with just a little bit of help from garden club members and family, their projects were done.

We also had a really good video about the Lifespan of a Caterpillar and the kids loved it.  If you are looking for a video to show your kids for homeschooling or just for fun, this one is really good.

Next, we had a butterfly release.  This is always a huge hit every year with the kids and it seemed this year, the grandparents loved it too.  Each child is given an envelope with a butterfly in it and as you slowly open it up, the butterfly wakes up and flies away.  We had some fruit sitting by because the butterflies need sugar pretty quickly after waking up to survive the flight to a flower.

After all that work, the kids were ready for a snack. Some of the ladies in our club knocked it out of the ball park with a really cute fruit basket for each child.  They really loved them.

But what I love about this day, is watching all those beautiful young children.  How they see the world.  The funny little things they say or ask.  How proud the grand parents are of them.  They are truly gifts from God.  And I especially love ………..

Those beautiful smiles!!

Enjoy,

  1. Hello, Tammy! What a sweet post! Grandparents are, in my mom opinion, one of God’s best ideas! What a blessing you are giving out to yours in return for the joy they heap on you! Thank you for sharing…stopping by from Christian Women Blogs on Facebook. 🙂
