I have had the pleasure of enjoying boxers most of my life. When I was a young girl, Duke, lived with us. After my son was born, we had Barkley, then Mia (such a sweet girl) and now we have our rescued boxer named Ernest T. Bass. He came with the name of Ernest and since we loved Andy Griffith show, the name stuck. And Ernest does act like the character on that show quite often.
We got Ernest from Florida Boxer Rescue in Central Florida and after having a rescued boxer, I would highly recommend going that route for any dog. I just can’t say enough about this wonder rescue and if you live close to Central Florida and is looking for the perfect family dog which doesn’t bark much, loves to play with kids, check out FBR.
After Mia passed away, we wanted a dog where we really didn’t have to deal with puppy issues.  Ernest came to us at about 5 years old and was easily trained in the kennel (he opens dead bolts) and house trained. Which he pretty much had that down pat anyway.
He does and still has tummy issues and is on special dog food, but nothing so bad that we have to get his food from the vet.
He has been my walking companion now for almost 6 years and that seems to be his favorite thing to do. Well, besides marking his spot every where we go.
If you are looking for a certain breed, there are so many rescues out there for specific dog breeds. Just do a Google search for your area and the type of dog you are looking for and I’m sure there is one close by. Rescued dogs are very special dogs and I truly think they know that when they get their “forever home”.
Have a wonderful day, Tammy
