Blog Prompt – Standing in a grocery line you notice bizarre or unusual combination’s of things people buy (for example: toilet paper, kiwi fruit, and a package of manila envelopes). What has been the weirdest combination of items you have bought at the store?
During my first marriage and when I wasn’t on the pill and before I had my tubes tied, we used condoms as a form of birth control. One day, I had gone into the local pharmacy to pick up some more condoms, but as usual, I needed a couple of other items. The pharmacy was an earlier version of a CVS or Walgreens.
Anyway, I went to check out and I lay down the box of condoms, a candy bar and a roll of 35mm film for my camera. (This was way before digital cameras). While the guy was checking me out he had the biggest grin on his face and for the life of me I couldn’t figure it out.
I got in the car, went to my girlfriends house (the one I talk about all the time) and told her how the guy was kind of laughing at my purchases. When I told her what I had bought, she said,”Well, you big doufuss!! You bought rain coats and film. He must have thought you were going to take pictures of your bedroom adventures!”
I just busted out laughing. To this day, every time I see a box of condoms I think about that.
On to my pitiful palm trees.
This past winter, we had a few days of way below freezing weather for more than a couple of hours. You talk to the old timers and they tell you that this past winter was the worse ever. I have to tend to believe them. I’ve just never heard of it getting that cold in Central Florida.
Well, our landscaping paid for it dearly and so did everyone elses. Our grass burned terribly, I lost all the plants in my butterfly garden and our palms looked like someone lit a match to them.
I took some pictures to show you the results.
These are my Queen palms in front of my house. As you can see, all the limbs on the one on the right are just burned completely up. There is one limb that is partially green. We are hoping and have been told, that new limbs will come out and when the old brown ones fall closer to the ground, cut them off.
The tree on the left is only a year old and seemed to do much better in the cold.  The tips are burned a bit, but there is much more green.
The Sable palm in the very back, doesn’t have a spot of brown on it. It held up really nice.
The next picture is of the palms from the street I live on. They all look so bad and my neighbor across the street are completely brown.  I think his were having problems anyway.
I am showing off another layout using Cara Mia Designs kit called Bella and you can find it here.
Everyone have a great day,
I’m just a country girl loving my geeky life with my wonderful husband, always taking pictures, getting my hands dirty in the garden, being crafty, exploring with travels and enjoying all this on a budget. But above all, living my faith as a child of God!
