Blog Prompt: Do you think school has changed much from when you went?
Oh yes!! I think the public school system has changed so much and its very disappointing. To see my high school with metal detectors just makes me cry. Children shouldn’t have to worry about going to school and being shot or killed. What is wrong with our country when it comes to educating our children?
Depending on the area and if I was having to send my child to school again, he would be going to a private school. The school district he went to, didn’t have classes for those who excelled and that was sad. There were a few that really needed that extra push. There were 50 kids that graduated from his class, only 11 went to college and only about 4 actually got a degree. That is extremely sad that not more went or want to go to college and this seems to be very common in the surrounding school districts.
My husband and I were talking the other day how schools have changed since we graduated. Didn’t know what a counselor was. My husband was extremely good in baseball and that was his dream. He didn’t have anyone to help him pursue his dream and that’s sad. I wanted to go to vet school, but because there were only about 3 in the country, I was told that it wasn’t a good idea. Even though I scored extremely well on my ACT test. Evidently, it was a mans world back then in the vet world.
But, life has turned out just fine with the education I received, my son is a teacher now, working on his Masters and on to his PHD.
We both did decide that High School does not prepare you for the real world or going to college.
Here is week 36 of my Life 365 project using items from Weeds & Wildflowers. The incentive program is starting back up this week and I can’t wait to see the free kit I will receive for doing my layouts for the month of August.
Enjoy a wonderful day,
I’m just a country girl loving my geeky life with my wonderful husband, always taking pictures, getting my hands dirty in the garden, being crafty, exploring with travels and enjoying all this on a budget. But above all, living my faith as a child of God!
