When I was younger, I had a lot of granny’s that I could run to for hugs or especially treats. We had a 5 generation when I was the youngest and then when my son was born. But sadly, at the age of 42, I sad goodbye to my last grandmother. Â
Even though I watched 2 of my grandmothers live their final years and days very ill and in nursing homes, it saddened me very much when I realized, after the last one past away, that I wasn’t anyone’s grandchild anymore. I felt so old at that moment.
The 2 layouts below were ones I made of my grandmother and my great-grandmother, the woman I know I am growing up to be. The 1st layout’s picture was made back in the 70’s when she was in such good health and the picture below of my great grandmother was done in the early 70’s. A few years later she had a stroke and lived about 10 years in the nursing home.
When I made this layout for a digi contest, I had one of those inspirational days and wrote a poem about my great grandmother. That was only the 2nd time I ever wrote a poem. I have it displayed below.

My Great Grandmother
Her name was Ruby. A name which means a red hot temper when she lost at cards and a precious gem when it came time for her special hugs. She always stood by me when I had done wrong, but had a firm voice to keep me in line. My great grandmother, who always wore a cotton house dress and walked around the kitchen barefoot. She collected pennies, let me play in her purse and always had a biscuit and a piece of bacon on the stove waiting for me after I came home from school. My GREAT grandmother, someone I am slowly growing up to be.
I’m just a country girl loving my geeky life with my wonderful husband, always taking pictures, getting my hands dirty in the garden, being crafty, exploring with travels and enjoying all this on a budget. But above all, living my faith as a child of God!
